City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing launched by Mayfair on Main and HMGoG Department of Education

As part of the Gibraltar education revolution and following on from the launch of Gibraltar’s first vocational courses in schools offered by Mayfair on Main in September 2019, a further offering of more advanced vocational studies is now available through The Gibraltar College. The City and Guilds Level 2 technical qualification in hairdressing offers a progression route for those who successfully complete the entry level City and Guilds level 2 technical award in School or for any other students who meet the entry criteria and wish to pursue a career in hairdressing. This is the first of many advanced vocational courses and there are plans for the further progression route of City and Guilds Level 3 offerings.

Mayfair on Main through their Academy, The Gibraltar Academy of Hair and Beauty are proud to be delivering the first ever vocational course through The Gibraltar College and are pleased to have realised their ambition of making hairdressing and beauty a career pathway in Gibraltar.

Pauline Olivera, Head of Education comments: “It’s been a long time coming. I’m very excited that we are now able to provide an ongoing training and education program for the young students who have a passion for the hair industry. The course is very intense and requires commitment and dedication from the learners, which leads to the possibility of qualifying to go straight into the industry.
There will also be a progression route for further learning to enhance their skill sets for ongoing development within the industry. This is excellent for our local salons to grow their workforce and together we will raise the standards of our hair industry here in Gibraltar.”

We are now working to ensure that there are further more advanced progression routes and local placement opportunities. The new technical course delivered through The Gibraltar College will enable successful students to become qualified hairdressers and the new element of employer involvement will afford students with valuable first hand industry experience. We wish all students success on their journey and are delighted to be writing history in Gibraltar once again.”
